Came to unlock my Alhambra in a car park recently and found the remote infrared key didn't work. Opened the drivers door manually with said key and central (un)locking didn't release the other doors and when I opened the door the alarm went off

Button on key wouldn't shut off alarm, even with engine running. Now can only open doors fitted with keyhole manually (driver, passenger and tailgate) - both rear doors child locked and can't be opened.

Have tried two or three ways of re-synchronizing key (pointing, pressing buttons, standing on my head etc) but so far to now avail. And alarm goes off every time any of the doors are opened with the key.

Red flashing light on drivers door trim has also ceased working.

What's a guy to do? :)

Is there a broken wire (or 2 or 3) in the loom between driver's door and A-pillar?

Thanks guys

No water any where in sight - never has been a problem.

But I will have a look for the wirey things.

In the meantime, what's the best way of bypassing the (very annoying) alarm, bearing in mind the infrared key is not working?

By the way, has anyone ever met someone that takes any notice of car alarms?

Is there actually a point to them or a they installed solely for the benefit of insurance companies?

Would a simple On/off switch be the way to go?

Hmmmm :D

On the facelift version you can bypass the Alarm without using the remote by pushing the drivers door opening handle/lock in from the inside, i.e with your arm through from the OSR door, then slam the rear door (which is by then locked) shut.

what happens if you turn the key in the lock and hold it? does the global closeure system operate? when you lock the vehicle by the door lock does the fuel filler flap lock?

if no to all of the above, you have lost power to the central locking! check the fuses and then start checking the loom to the drivers door! with the loss of the LED and the symptons you describe I would say it sounds like you have lost a couple of wires in the loom and they may have shorted out and took out the fuse?
